Preview of the 2001/2002 Season

With several players leaving to go to local rivals Ashington and with some players wishing to take a break from rugby, this year will be a year of development within the Club.

Many holes have been left in the first team and these will likely to be filled by some of last years colts. It will take some time for these youngsters to learn that they are up against experienced players, and what worked last year against colts may not work so well against these bigger and better players.

Briefly, the players that have left are as follows, if I miss anyone, then I apologize.

Stephen Hall (The Coon), Gary Sinton, Jonathan Smith, Richard Sparks, Kevin Barratt.

With Darren Meggison, and Johny Johnson both taking a break from the game, these will all be difficult players to replace.

I suppose I should not write anything too controversial on this site, and I have done my best to avoid the 'disagreements' that have gone on during the summer. But if this club is going to survive over the next few years, it needs to take a good look at itself and put right what is going wrong.

The first team travel to Whitby on Sat 8th and it will be a huge test for the First team. Lets hope they grab some points.

Tales of the Tour

After a long week 'On The Beer', all the alcohol was starting to take its effect and on Friday, Scrum Half Johnie 'Lusard - Warty Willie' Johnson was suffering, he was being dragged around Llorrett by Coony, who was shopping for his Family, and Johnie was suffering from 'Shoppers Knee'. He was sitting in the shop doorway with his head in his hands, obviously suffering from a week of Alcohol abuse, his head was thumping and he felt a little rough. So hot was Johnie that he took off his cap and held it in his hand. So there he was sitting on his own with the sun beating down on his shaven head, wishing he hadn't had that 14th pint......... It was then that some tourists walked passed and seeing the state that Johnie was in, that they tossed a few pesetas into his cap thinking he was a beggar!!!

Johnie said he didn't get much so he had to come back to work.

Darren Cunningham, Kenny Robinson, Mark Atkinson, Davy Little, Darren Meggison, Chris Bell and John Johnson were all out on the beer in Llorrett one night on tour. They ended up in a bar which turned out to a German bar. It was chocker block with Jerries, dancing around the floor singing their heads off in their mother tongue. They all bought a pint of lager and were given a tequila c/w salt and lime. They all drank the tequila, but Johnie didn't seem too keen as his stomach disagrees with tequila. He drank it anyway and subsequently started throwing up. Not just a little bit, but big gushers. Anyway, by now the record the DJ was playing had finished and in the background we could he the music to our National Anthem. So, Johnie finished barfing and immediately joined in with the lads at the top of his voice singing, 'God Save The Queen'. When it was finished, we looked around and the bar was empty.

We had drove the Germans out once more and liberated Yates Bar, Llorett
